Basic Principles for Understanding the Needs and Perspectives of Donor Conceived People

Thursday 10th November 2022 – 9pm (GMT)

I was joined by resident Paths to Parenthub speaker Hayley (DCP and RP) alongside Emma, DCP and co-founder of Donor Conceived Aotearoa.

Emma shared details of their recently released summary of the “Basic Principles for Understanding the Needs and Perspectives of Donor Conceived People”. Created by Donor Conceived Aotearoa (DCA), an advocacy group by and for donor conceived people in New Zealand, with principles that translate across the world. Their mission is to create a positive impact on the lives of donor conceived people and their families, focusing on ensuring the needs and experiences of donor conceived people are heard and considered in all aspects of donor conception.

They have prepared the “Basic Principles” as a resource for parents, donors and fertility services to better understand our needs and perspectives. We’ll be discussing these principles to understand them in more depth, explore what the spectrum of responses might be and what these mean for us as recipient parents.
